I've been a member of a great, active Ottawa Meetup group for a few years now, and I started leading hikes last year, which was great.
But. for some reason, this year I've been a bit slow/ late in getting back to organizing and leading hikes. Just lack of motivation or inherent laziness, perhaps. But I've finally gotten my butt in gear and started leading again.
I'm so thankful that I did. Yesterday was the first hike I've led this year, and it was SO good. It was just a short, gentle route, with a couple of long (twenty minute to half-hour) breaks. I got to see some old friends, and meet some new ones. The people who joined were so appreciative of my leading the hike and organizing it, it made me feel good. And everyone seemed to truly enjoy the outing.
We took trail #36 from P10 to the Carbide Wilson Ruins, then we made our way to O'Brien Beach for a swim in Meech Lake. The water was gorgeous, the weather was perfect, and really I couldn't have asked for a nicer group.
Just so you know, I'm an early riser and plan my hikes accordingly - so they tend to appeal to other early risers. People who want to spend a few hours in nature, then get home and get on with their day.
