Bulgarian Bean Soup and Tarator, too

I had a lovely weekend, after a full five-day work week last week. On Saturday, I just puttered around, did a few groceries, and that was it But on Sunday I went over to my friend, Jivka's, place in Hull. Her parents are visiting from Bulgaria, and are leaving to head back on Tuesday, so this was my last chance to meet them.

Her mother and father are in their late 60's, and are still active. Her father has done a lot of renovations on the house, while her mom has been cooking up a storm. I was fortunate enough to be invited for a white bean soup and homemade wine lunch, which was delicious! I will try to get the bean soup recipe, but for now, here's a photo and a description.

The beans were totally soft, yet not mushy - just perfect! The broth was flavourful but delicate. And it was a soup that was very filling, too.

Additionally, I was introduced to tarator, a kind of cold yogurt soup, that's heavy on garlic and is super refreshring. I can see myself making this myself over the summer. (I found a good recipe here: http://cookinglsl.com/cold-yogurt-cucumber-soup-tarator/) .
