I've fallen in love with the art of crochet. I've spent a small fortune on yarn, making weekly trips to Michaels with a discount coupon in hand. And my skill level has improved exponentially, as well - I've graduated from making scarves to shawls to ponchos and finally to a pattern designated "experienced".
Here's my Tree of Life Afghan in progress:
This is from a free pattern from Lion Brand, download it here! http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/90360AD.html
It's a complicated pattern a bit, involving cables (front post and back post double crochet), but I've nearly finished my tree panel, and it's looking pretty good, if I do say so myself!
Honestly, this pattern is not hard, especially because there is a stitch diagram included. Just count you stitches all the time to make sure you are on track.
I'm thinking that i might make a short video to help get folks started on this - because it is a very doable and very rewarding crochet project.
